The energy release during acoustic cavitation in a liquid milieu could lead to a light emission called sonoluminescence. This phenomenon has been proposed for playing a pivotal role in the sonodynamic activation of chemical agent with potential therapeutic applications. Even though this hypothesis meets several consensuses, doubts are being expressed about the intracellular sonoluminescence occurrence. With this in mind, we undertake this project to elucidate the relationship between acoustic cavitation, sonoluminescence occurence and sonodynamic activity at a cellular level.
