Description
The project is based on the preparation and characterization of nanoparticles via solvent displacement in confined impinging jets reactors (CIJR) that are small passive mixers in which very fast turbulent mixing of the solvent (i.e., acetone and tetrahydrofuran) and of the antisolvent (i.e., water) solutions occurs under controlled conditions. The effect of some operating parameters is studied by means of a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model, capable of quantifying the mixing conditions inside the CIJR. Doxorubicin was encapsulated into nanoparticles as a model drug during their preparation. Several materials were used to prepare nanoparticles, such as poly(MePEGCA-co-HDCA) that is a PEGylated amphiphilic biodegradable copolymer. Moreover, confined impinging jet mixers were successfully used for the production of PEGylated nanocapsules too.
