MEDSynth is a Medicinal Chemistry group funded in the late 2012 by Prof. Marco Lucio Lolli and Prof. Donatella Boschi from the Dep. Science and Drug Technology (DSTF) of the University of Torino (IT).
MEDSynth group is able to offer a complete technological platform, from the in silico design, throughout the synthesis until the in vitro / in vivo pharmacological characterization, for the design of preclinical drug candidates.
Owing around twenty years background in Medicinal and Heterocyclic chemistry, our major research interest can be found in the design of small active molecules effective in Cancer and Neglected diseases.

At the present, MEDSynth is major focused on:

  • Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML)

  • Antiviral agents

  • Immunosuppression

  • Gaba and Glutaminergic neutrasmission

  • Prostate Cancer

  • Neglected diseases (Malaria, Leishmania …)

  • Prof. Tiziano Tuccinardi - Department of Pharmacy, University of Pisa (Italy)

  • Prof. Giannino Del Sal - Department of Life Sciences, University of Trieste (Italy)

  • Dott. Riccardo Miggiano - Università del Piemonte Orientale, (Italy)

  • Prof. Giorgio Gribaudo - Department of Life Sciences and Systems Biology, University of Turin (Italy)

  • Prof. Filippo Minutolo - Department of Pharmacy, University of Pisa (Italy)

MEDSynth unit is able to apply state-of-the-art techniques such as parallel chemistry, solid phase synthesis and microwave-assisted organic synthesis (MAOS), in addition to classical solution phase organic synthesis, in order to increase the output. The MeDS labs are fully equipped for both liquid and solid phases syntheses. Specifically:

Modelling

  • Metaverse: Nanome (Oculus Meta Quest 2)

  • Docking station (Gold, Autodock, ....)

Synthesis/Development

  • High-pressure PARR® reactor (high pressure reactions)

  • Kugelrohr distillation apparatus

  • Teledyne Isco CombiFlash System

  • Medium Pressure Liquid Chromatography (MPLC Buchi 688)

  • Analytical HPLC (Merck-Hitachi L-6200, douple pump system, UV detector, autosampler)

  • Analytical UHPLC FLEXAR FX-15 Platform - Perkin Elmer

  • UltiMate™ 3000 Semi-Preparative System with automatic fraction collector

The unit can also easily access, due to the presence to commune research projects, to other techniques present in DSTF:

  • Milestone MicroSYNTH microwave oven (two unity)

  • Milestone SinthWave microwave oven

  • Waters Binary pump 1525EF, 2998 Diode array detector, 2424 ELS detector, WFC III fraction collector

  • E. Akta Purifier 10/100 System

  • Waters FractionLink Autopurification System (Binary pump 2525, 2767 Autosampler/fraction collector, 2996 Diode array detector, ZQ – ESCi- MS detector)

  • Agilent 6850 GC System equipped with 5973 Mass Selective Detector

  • NMR Jeol ECZ-R 600 MHz
