Description:

The aim of the project is to sensitise and to raise awareness among pharmacists and customers/patients about the dramatic reality of the violence against women. As a matter of fact this phenomenon is much more widespread than it appears and it was thought to use the Pharmacy as a point of information for those concerned and for people close to them but not able to provide help as well as for all those who are sensitive to the problem.

The first part of the project involved the distribution, in one of the most multi ethnic districts of Turin, of a questionnaire on the gender violence, anonymous and translated into 8 languages.

From the analysis of the collected data emerged several thoughts about the role of the pharmacist in this context and in the prospective of the Community Pharmacy Project developed in Piedmont.

In fact it became clear that Italian women are interested in the pharmacist counselling because they believe that this professional figure might be one of the first to whom address a request for help in case of violence.

During the evaluation of the obtained results, the idea of realizing simple but useful tools -that can be a support for the pharmacist during the counselling in case of request for help- has developed; moreover it has been shared the importance and the need to uniformly train those pharmacists interested to collaborate with the communal or provincial anti-violence network by being inserted in a team that provides a fundamental service for the protection of the woman.

The initiative is continuing by widespreading the information material in the province of Turin and by organizing specific training courses addressed to community pharmacist.
