Temi di ricerca
Katia Martina's research activity focuses on sustainable organic synthesis, with particular emphasis on the development and optimization of innovative synthetic methodologies performed in green solvents, under solvent-free conditions, and/or through the application of non-conventional activation techniques, including power ultrasound, microwave irradiation, mechanochemistry, photochemistry, and continuous-flow chemistry. To enhance synthetic efficiency and achieve process intensification, these enabling technologies are often integrated synergistically, for example through microwave–ultrasound, microwave-assisted continuous-flow, and photochemical continuous-flow approaches.
She has extensive expertise in the design, preparation, and optimization of novel catalytic systems, both homogeneous and heterogeneous. Her research also encompasses the development of functionalization strategies for advanced materials, including silica- and carbon-based nanomaterials, as well as unconventional methods for the preparation of nanoparticles for catalytic and biomedical applications.
She is also specialized in the synthesis and characterization of bioactive compounds and diagnostic probes for fluorescence imaging and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). In the field of natural product derivatization, she has particular expertise in the selective functionalization of cyclodextrins.
Her reasearch activity is reported in 87 publications in scientific journals within PE5_17: Physical Sciences and Engineering (PE) Sector 5_17 synthetic chemistry and materials – Organic chemistry; 7 book chapter; 7 patents.
