Description
Piedmont Region “Direzione Sanità-Settore Promozione della Salute ed Interventi di Prevenzione Individuale e Collettiva” , Poison Control Center of Milan, Niguarda Ca’ Granda Hospital and Department DSTF have signed an agreement with the common goal to carry out a monitoring of exposures and poisonings from wild and cultivated plants. Due to the difficulty in the identification of the plants, especially in cases related to wild plant exposures, it is possible to have many problems in the care of the patients. In a plant poisoning case, a close cooperation between the Poison Center and non-physician consultant (e.g.) botanists is essential in order to confirm the medical diagnosis and to help in the prevention and management of the deleterious effects of toxic plants on human health. Prof. Patrizia Rubiolo and Prof. Maria Laura Colombo, from the PHYTO&FOOD CHEM group of DSTF, are directly involved in the project thanks to their expertise and knowledge on plant systematic botany. A graduated herbalist Dott. Chiara Falciola from the University of Turin and working at the Poison Control Center of Milan, Niguarda Ca’ Granda Hospital, actively cooperates in this project.
